Exposure drive

Good evening to those on my local time.
It has been a busy few weeks for the team at Remiware as we move the shift from software development to exposure and marketing. Don’t get me wrong we have not abandoned coding but i felt that the time had finally arrived that we started to focus mere on our users and customers. Get back in touch with the people that make all the hard work worth while.
I had a chat with one of my customers and she had reported to me an annoying problem on her Remicrystal. First off, all her created DSNs were not appearing in the ODBC list in the Task that she had scheduled. Entering the details manually was giving her a very annoying error message, see below
“[Microsoft][ODBC Manager]Data source name not found and no default driver specified”
The cause of course was because this is a 64bit machine to get to the ODBC screen to create DSNs, simply go to C:\windows\sysWOW64\odbcad32.exe

Working with CR12 is at times proving to cause a few glitches. Inability to access parameters in sub reports from within remiCystal has also caused some stress with our software gurus in the office. Although setup right, it actually works pretty smoothly, simply create the parameter values in the main report that link to the sub reports (in Crystal that is) the in remicrystal, you will be able to just point to it without accessing the sub report. “Login Failed” error to Crystal Reports

A very interesting error solution today. Whilst I have seen the error ‘Login Failed’ all so many times over the years I have been using Crystal Reports. I had a very interesting experience today when I could not pinpoint what was causing it. Nothing to do with matching/ mismatch of login details. Instead, I discovered that it was my Data Source Name connection that was causing the issue all along. cutting a long story short, here is what I did. Simply created a new one, tried it and I could connect with no problem from my CR to SQL Database. Good stuff.
Anyone had a look at the Crystal Reports 14 Beta yet? Pretty cool actually, it looks like it has addressed a few of the stability issues that we had in 12. Personally I still like to work in CR11. It had a few pluses that I can not work without. A bit to do with Excel formating. Come on SAP, get it together .
RemiCrystal has had its fair share of bugs in working with the different versions of Crystal. I had initially preffered to focus on our Crystal Reports 12 users and this has failed to get me anywhere. A lot of users of CR11 have demanded compatibility and we had no choice but to give up . We got to love the remiWare team, such quick turn around.
As well as introducing the SSRS compatibility aspect, we hope to address a lot of the trends in the market. Who knows what is in store for us next. I am certainly up for a challenge. Windows mobile apps may be our next move but lets wait and see.

Crystal Reports vs SSRS

Crystal Reports vs SSRS? This has been the question on many developers and Professionals in the reporting industry. Whilst we have seen a trend on user preference of SSRS, there are still many reasons why many of us are sticking with CR development as an industry solution.
At remiWare, we have taken a unique approach that no other in the industry thought necessary. The importance of both reporting portals should not be underestimated, whether you are switching from CR to SSRS or simply starting afresh with SSRS, even those that are trailing both reporting services. We feel that our solution should encompass our clients needs and not allow for any inconveniences during report processing, in the case of those switching services.
We have now introduced SQL Reporting Services in remiCrystal.
Imagine setting up one task, to deliver 2 CR and 2 SSRS reports to a specified recipient. Fantastic.
Our developers worked very hard and we concluded on an integrated approach to reporting services.
As we now move to using more ssrs from cr, I will be blogging a lot more on what I find useful.

FTP Uploader

I am already excited about this little tool that we have been polishing up for everyone out there. A tiny app that will upload to your FTP server with just a drop. Fantastic stuff!! My software team are great at implementing tools that they have created to help their own day to day processes and now we are passing these on to the masses, so that loads of man hours can be cut back, hence make time for us to do more of the important tasks in life i.e. Golf, swimming etc .

Automatic Driving

Good day to you all!!!
Another exciting week and more happening around the globe. We at remiWare are not to be left behind. We have been busy with providing support to our user base who seem to be finding the world of Automated reporting as exciting as I promised in my previous blog. A quick setup session and a few reports later, i have a lady send me an email to tell me that her morning has all of a sudden been opened up. She has automated the work that took her whole monday morning, every week! Excellent stuff. Crystal reports delivery automation at its best!!
Summer is well and truly underway, we have no plans for vacation just yet. Sarah and Shafeek have demonstrations to make to a few of our clients in four states (Good like you two!!) and Nadine on our front line is busy with enquiries from users. Yeah, i guess you can call this a typical Wednesday at the remiWare offices.

Software Launch – the excitement

Hello everyone!!

It has been a while since the last time that I had a bit of time to sit back and enjoy the pleasure of typing a piece of my mind to my fellow readers. I have to say, this has been a really exciting two weeks for us as a team and I would like to thank my colleagues for working through the challenges that we faced during the production phase of our Crystal reports Automation Tool.
Lots of brainstorming and creative thinking. last week I sat down and said to my wife “I love it when a plan comes together.” Not only have we at remiWare created a light and user friendly automation tool for Crystal reports Scheduling but this will prove to many business owners that the switch to Automation does not have to be a costly one. Just have a glance at the sleek interphase and tell me what you think .
After years of helping many firms set up bespoke automation reporting processes , we have moved it to the masses and would like to share our specialist knowledge and get Crystal reports users to automate their distribution process. Just think (those man hours saved could be investing in other productive roles).
Have had a chance to talk to a few people around who have reported that although the economy look bleak, investing in a worthy long term software solution can prove the best part of saving a business, and I certainly could not agree more.
Ms Scholsky (our Sales and Marketing leader) has been spending a lot of time in NY with us and I think we might convince her to join the NY team and move East from California .

The Trends in Software?

The question right now is what is the most popular trend in terms of the software industry? I think everyone has a different answer to this. It has to be said that iPhone apps have certainly taken on the world like a storm and now with the new 3Gs, we are certainly in for a very speedy ride. This should be the time for many skilled developers to jump on the band wagon and get creating. The rest of the world however still has to face up to the daily mundane duties of the 9-5 crunch in the four cubicle walls aka the office. Our remiWare company is certainly on top of things, we are bringing in ways of simplifying work and cutting down hrs to give people more free time for the important duties.
We have our Crystal reports scheduler, which is simple, clean and affordable. We have a very nifty FTP client, and I have to say this is probably the one application that I use the most on any day. I simply select the folder I want to upload drag it to the little window in the corner of my screen and drop, it uploads and I have the time to organise the rest on my day.

As we begin this journey during these very troubled economic times, we certainly have our clients’ best interests at heart. We are not just looking at saving you time and money but am also looking at providing the best value and quality software. We will focus on business solutions as well as what we are calling “home” solutions. These are the days of the “PC” and dont forget the “Mac”. Most homes, certainly my home, now have a PC. My wife and my sons are using it for all sorts of stuff. So we will be focusing on creating software that people at home can use to help manage tasks, watch this space .
